Women Working Through a Time of Transition

This article describes Pat McGovern's experience of a "Retirement" or WHAT NEXT™ workshop and highlights some of the issues facing women, like Pat, who are contemplating a change in their life.

Getting To What's Next

This article by Suzanne Braun Levine is taken from her book "Inventing The Rest of Our Lives: Women In Second Adulthood", an important new book about What's Next. It examines what happens when you ask "What Do I Do With The Rest of my Life?" and get no answer.

The article includes insights from Ruth Neubauer and Karen Van Allen, founders and facilitators of"Retirement" or WHAT NEXT, for negotiating this period of confusion.

"So we're afraid of setting forth with unrealistic expectations: Can I really learn a new language? Start my own business? Can I fall in love? Get a divorce? Closeup the house? Do I have what it takes to make changes in my life?"

"In the place of best-laid plans we are building a new course - a mellow confidence in our ability to cope with and even embrace what life brings."

“Letting go of ways of thinking and doing is essential to truly being in transition.”

“Walking, falling or stumbling into 'Not Knowing', uncomfortable as it may be, is necessary for beginning the process of becoming unstuck”
